One Dress, Two Stories - Reem Acra
Here at Our Story Bridal, a New York bridal consignment boutique with beautiful designer preowned wedding dresses, we often wonder about the stories of dresses before they arrive at our store and after they find a new lucky bride. We love the notion of two brides sharing and wearing the same beautiful dress, but incorporating it into completely different types of weddings. In our series, “1 Dress, 2 Stories,” we take a look at how two real brides made the same gown completely their own.
Follow the story of a beautiful Reem Acra bridal dress with beaded sleeves and a stunning draped silk bodice and skirt from the beach to the Hamptons.
Savvy Bride Cecilia - Scenic Beach Soiree
Cecilia and Dario met through mutual friends, and Cecilia was at first skeptical of a relationship developing because of a big age difference between the two. But after spending time together, they fell in love and the rest is history! They decided to marry in Punta del Este, Uruguay, where Cecilia spent all of her childhood summers.
“We both love the beach, so La Huella, a restaurant with a beautiful sea view, was the perfect place. When you are able to walk on the sand and see and hear the waves of the sea, there is really no need for any more decoration. With just a few colorful pillows and some flowers, we were all set.
We lucked out with the weather, and we planned to have the ceremony during the afternoon so that we and our guests could really see the beauty of the place. It was also amazing at night once the moon came out and we danced underneath a sky full of stars. The entire wedding flew by, and one of my favorite memories happened toward the tail end of the night. The sun was beginning to come out, and I was with Dario and a group of close friends eating some late night food by the fireplace. I just remember the warm feelings that I had surrounded by the people that I loved the most.
Shopping for my wedding dress actually happened by chance. Everyone was in town for my brother’s wedding, so my sister-in-law thought we should take advantage of having my mom and sisters in town to try on some dresses. I saw the beautiful Reem Acra dress hanging on the rack and instantly fell in love with it. I only tried on five dresses, and I knew that it was the one! The favorite thing about my wedding dress is the silver beaded sleeves. It was just the right amount of bling, and I didn’t need any other jewelry or accessory to feel complete.”
Savvy Bride Sarah - Scenic Beach Soiree
Like any savvy millennial, Sarah met her husband on Tinder. It was love at first swipe. The couple had an intimate ceremony in his parent’s backyard in Bridgehampton, New York and continued the celebration at a scenic restaurant. With the help of Rebecca from Pink Bow Tie Weddings, the couple had the ultimate Hamptons celebration. Pore through the images captured beautifully by the team at Someplace Wild.
“It was really important to us that our wedding be elegant but laid back and well-planned but not uptight. We wanted it to be personal, so we wrote the ceremony ourselves and had each of our sisters officiate.
Post-ceremony, we headed to Bay Kitchen Bar in East Hampton, one of our favorite restaurants that happens to have amazing sunset views. We just wanted to throw a really great dance party!! For dinner, we served a bite menu in lieu of a more formal seated meal and the dancing started right away. I knew I didn’t want a traditional wedding cake, so we surprised everyone with a Mister Softee truck at the end of the night. I’m still proud of myself for keeping that secret from my friends!
Our DJ, who also happens to be a very good friend, kept everyone, including my 90-year-old grandfather, breaking it down all night long. Our first dance was to Whitney Houston’s ‘I wanna Dance with Somebody’. We had some issues with the speakers not working, but instead of stopping to fix it, everyone belted out the lyrics as we danced. It was pretty magical!
As for my wedding dress, funnily enough, I wasn't even going to try it on. Two of my best friends picked it out and made me try it – I was shocked at how well it fit. It was not what I pictured wearing at all, but once I had it on, I was ready to buy it on the spot. My favorite thing about it was the flowy skirt. That was pretty fun to wear and made for some good boomerang videos!”
Words from Cecilia: "The Reem Acra dress looked great on Sarah. I love how we both just let the dress speak for itself rather than adding anything else to it. Sarah, we couldn't have picked a more perfect dress."
Words from Sarah:"It is so fun to see how we both choose a similar setting by the water for our wedding. I love that she wore sneakers. I wish I had thought to change into those!"
